FLEMING’S BOYS PICK UP A WIN

As the season begins to reach its conclusion, Fleming boys basketball is proving that it still has some fuel left in the tank.

On Friday night, the Wildcats hit the gas during a win against Weldon Valley, their fourth of the season. They ended their night with a 40-32 victory over the Warriors. Senior David Betley took the lead for the Wildcats, netting 11 points, then supplement­ed that performanc­e with seven rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Fleming will begin the final four games of its season on Friday night at home against Mcclave. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Fleming girls hoops gets back on track

Even in the face of a rare defeat, Fleming girls basketball has proven it knows how to rebound. Following a 50-40 loss to Briggsdale on Jan. 27, the Wildcats flipped the script in the three games that followed, taking down Akron in a 37-27 final, Weldon Valley with a 76-21 decision and Genoa-hugo/karval with a 47-31 score.

The Wildcats maintained control through three of the four quarters against Akron, as sophomore Brooke Schaefer led the field with nine points and sophomore Ashley Bornhoft followed with eight.

In their massive victory over the Warriors, three Wildcats put up double figures, led by Schaefer’s 16 and followed by senior Madi Serrato’s 13, sophomore Ciana Lousberg’s 11 and freshman Hadley Stull’s 10. Sophomore Quincy Stull led the initiative at the glass with 10 rebounds.

Fleming wrapped up its current win streak with a home win against the Pirates, who forced the Wildcats to outpace them during a 20-2 final quarter. Serrato dominated on the nylon, scoring 20 points, and Lousberg backed her up with another 11 points.

Fleming improved to 10-4 and will welcome Mcclave on Friday night to begin the final stretch of the regular season.
