David Baines

Pastor David Lawrence Baines of Sterling, Colorado passed into eternity with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 17, 2024. David was born to Roscoe Ray and Helen Fleming on November 18, 1944 in Glen Flora, Texas. He passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. A Celebratio­n of Life service will be held at the E.S. French Hall Corsberg Theater at

NJC at 100 College Drive, Sterling, on Saturday, February 24, at 9:30 A.M. A graveside interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, 18611 US 6.

David graduated from T.L. Pink High School in Glen Flora, Texas in 1963. As a sergeant in the US Army, David was a swimming instructor and paratroope­r for the 82nd Airborne. For multiple years David worked for Monsanto Chemical Plant as a Process Engineer in Texas City, Texas before going into full time ministry.

David married Rene Rockas in Galveston, Texas November 30, 1985. She was a great wife and assistant as worship leader among other ministry roles. Fishing with his friend, Ken Namuth, and other good buddies was one of Pastor David's favorite hobbies. There was lots of laughter. David liked to tease, had a fun sense of humor and a great big warm smile for ever yone.

Pastor Baines was a man of prayer and praise, and a preacher of the Gospel. Many salvations and miracles of the Lord were worked through him. He was an encourager to fellow pastors and everyone he met. He was an Ombudsman for Northeaste­rn Junior College for many years. In this role he was the peacekeepe­r, encourager, supporter, advocate, friend and mediator for many college students and coworkers. David was a humble man and had a true heart for the meek and broken. He was part of a very powerful deliveranc­e team in Texas for a while.

People would even come from New York to experience the prayers of authority in Christ that set them free by David's team. He worked with recover y groups for many years helping folks striving to come out of addictions. He started and pastored churches in Texas and Sterling. He was a true evangelist-taking part in some powerful crusades and seeing many salvation and healing miracles. He especially liked doing Crusades in Mexico. He also served as the Chaplin at the Sterling Department of Correction­s a couple years ago which was coming into a revival type mode, experienci­ng mighty miracles of God. His most recent church start is the New Beginnings Church in Fleming, Colorado. In September 2023 a powerful healing crusade was held at his church with JD Holmes and wife Janet from North Carolina. Pastor Baines enjoyed the revival atmosphere and people at Life for All Nations Ministry in Wray, Colorado, and in Julesburg, Colorado at the Julesburg Community Church in recent years.

Pastor Baines will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rene Rockas Baines and his son, Darryl Baines; sisters: Patricia Ann Jones and Gloria Ray Mackey; brothers: Kenneth Ray and Darryl Ray. He is survived by his son David Lenn and his wife Llaneika Baines of Spring, Texas; daughter Brandi Baines of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchild­ren: Delan, Ashley, Dorinda and Bryson Baines; brother Melvett and his wife Petrina Ray of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
