David Duane Custer

David Duane Custer, 89, of Fleming, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at home with his family by his side. Viewing will be held from 1 - 6 p.m., Friday, March 1 at Chaney-reager Funeral Home with family to receive friends from 4 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, at First English Lutheran Church with Reverend Richard von Steinman officiatin­g. The service will conclude at the church.

David was born August 16, 1934, in Motley, Minnesota to Leroy Earl Custer and Leona Helen (Heren) Custer. He graduated from Tucson Senior High School and earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Colorado. David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on August 15, 1960.

David married Carole Jean Herin on June 3, 1959, in Silver City, New Mexico. David's career took him to many states and the family lived in New Mexico, Minnesota, Colorado and for a short time in Arizona and then returning back to Colorado. David worked as an electronic­s software engineer for Bell Labs (Lucent Technologi­es).

He was a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, American Legion, Kids Club, and Custer

County Community Sharing Center. He served as treasurer for many of the clubs.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leona and Leroy Custer and son Leroy Custer.

David is survived by his wife Carole Jean Custer, his children Kennen (Denise) Custer of Sun City, Arizona, and Susan (Robert)

Mast of Wenatchee, Washington, brother Evan (Jill) Custer, grandchild­ren Joseph Custer, Aaron Jung, David Custer, Eric Custer, Jonathan Custer, Jacob Custer, and

Hayley Mast. And numerous great grandchild­ren.
