Miller to join Black Hills State track team; Reeves to continue softball career at Mccook
Two Sterling High School athletes signed letters of intent with colleges in Nebraska and South Dakota on Wednesday.
Elizabeth Miller signed with Black Hills State University of Spearfish, S.D., while Audry Reeves signed with Mccook Community College of Mccook, Neb.
Miller will compete with the Yellow Jackets track and field team. At SHS she was all-state second team in track her freshman and junior years and honorable mention all-state her sophomore year. She qualified to pole vault at state as a freshman, sophomore, and junior, and placed fourth in the state as a junior.
Miller was on the Lone Star gymnastics team for four years, making it to the state championships three times. She was as successful in the classroom as on the field, with a grade point average of 3.987, placing her third in a class of 90 seniors.
Black Hills State is one of 15 schools in the NCAA Division II, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, which includes Adams State University, Chadron State College in Nebraska and Metropolitan State University of Denver, among others.
Audrey Reeves will play softball for the Mccook Indians. At SHS she was a four-year letter winner in softball. She was named to the Patriot League’s all-conference second team in softball and Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-state participant.
As a junior, Reeves qualified for the Colorado state track meet.
Reeves ranks fifth in her senior class of 90 with a GPA of 3.943 and she has earned academic honors for three years.
Mccook Community College is in the NJCAA Region 9 Conference with 17 other schools, including Northeastern Junior College, Casper College and Western Nebraska College, among others.
