John R. Hughbanks

-

MORTON - John R. Hughbanks was welcomed into Heaven by our Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 15, 2023, after his 3-year long battle with cancer.

Born June 19, 1951, John spent his youth in Peoria, IL, with his parents, Jack C. and Lois Darlene Hughbanks, along with his siblings, Claudia Hughbanks Woods, Sharon Russo (Nick), Robert Hughbanks and James Hughbanks. He graduated from Richwoods High School, Illinois Central College and the Steamfitters Local Apprenticeship.

John married the love of his life, Sherry (Loy) Hughbanks, in 1973, and they moved to Morton, Illinois. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this past March with the whole family in Curacao. His career in the construction field culminated with taking over Morton Aquatech Pools and Spas before retiring to Fort Myers, Florida. He was a life-long golfer and spent much of his retirement doing just that.

Recently, he moved to Olive Branch, Mississippi, to be closer to his son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters, for whom he would move the heavens and the earth. John had a larger-than-life presence, booming voice and vehemently protective personality. He would do anything for those lucky enough to be considered family or friend! John passed on his love of sports and the importance of perseverance to his son, Jay Hughbanks (Heather). Those that knew him well will remember him for his tender heart, fierce determination and adoration for his family.

The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. Memorials can be made to DeSoto Hills Baptist Church, 4680 Getwell Road, Southaven, MS 38672; or Tunica Humane Society, 4500 Fox Island Road, Tunica, MS 38676.
