HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL Projecting districts for Peoria-area schools
Voting is underway for a change to the Illinois High School Association football scheduling.
IHSA member schools have until Dec. 18 to cast their ballots to either keep the current scheduling system or adapt a district format. The IHSA would predetermine the schools within the eight enrollment classes and places them in eight "districts."
Districts would need 512 playoff-eligible teams to work as designed, according to IHSA playoff guru Steve Soucie of Friday Night Drive. Soucie says the proposal, however, doesn't have a scenario where there are not enough or too many teams to fill the 512 districts spots.
Here are the projected districts involving Peoria-area teams, according to Soucie:
Class 7A
District 8: Pekin, Alton Belleville West, Collinsville, Granite City, Moline, Normal Community and Quincy
Class 6A
District 6: LaSalle-Peru, Bremen, Crete-Monee, Kankakee, Ottawa, Providence, T.F. North, Harvey Thornton
District 7: Dunlap, Peoria High, Richwoods, Galesburg, Washington, East Moline United Township, Normal West, Rock Island
Class 5A
District 6: East Peoria, Limestone, Metamora, Morton, Morris, Streator, Urbana, Mahomet-Seymour
Class 4A
District 5: Peoria Notre Dame, Manual, Canton, Illinois Valley Central, Hall, Kewanee, Macomb, Pontiac
Class 3A
District 4: Princeton, Dwight, Erie, Mendota, Fairbury Prairie Central, Reed-Custer, Seneca, Sherrard
District 5: Eureka, Olympia, Beardstown, Monmouth-Roseville, New Berlin, Pleasant Plains, Petersburg PORTA, Williamsville
Class 2A
District 4: Elmwood/Brimfield, Farmington, Illini West, Knoxville, Lewistown, Mendon Unity, Tremont, Hamilton West Hancock
Class 1A
District 3: Princeville, Fieldcrest, United, Abingdon-Avon, Stark County, Annawan/Wethersfield, ROWVA/Williamsfield, St. Bede
District 5: Deer Creek-Mackinaw, Havana, South Fulton, Rushville-Industry, Concord Triopia, Heyworth, Camp Point Central, Mt. Sterling Brown County
