Thelma L. Hartseil
METAMORA - Thelma Louise Hartseil, 95, of Metamora, formerly of Mapleton, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Snyder Village in Metamora, surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 23, 1928, in Peoria to Earl and Hazel (Martin) Tewell. She married Carl Hartseil on December 23, 1951, in Peoria, and he passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sons, Kirt (Betty) Hartseil of Aiken, SC, and Kevin (Terri) Hartseil ofMorton;sixgrandchildren,Jackie(Cliff)Anders of Madisonville, LA, Jamie (Oliver) Noel of Aiken, SC, Kirt Hartseil Jr. of Sorrento, FL, Lyndsay (Brad) Stoecker of Metamora, Stefanie (Ryan) Waggener of West Peoria and Taylor (Jennifer) Hartseil of Morton; and seven great-grandchildren.
Thelma was a pillar of strength within her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She found immense joy in attending their sporting events.
An avid Cubs fan, Thelma’s enthusiasm for baseball was infectious. Thelma’s vibrant personality extended beyond the ballpark. She was a natural people person, effortlessly connecting with others and brightening their days with her genuine warmth and laughter. As a ring leader and organizer, she brought people together, creating unforgettable memories and fostering lifelong friendships.
In her free time, Thelma enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was fishing by the lake or attending theater, plays and musicals in the Peoria area. Her great sense of humor brought lightness to every situation and her love for playing cards and bingo brought joy to many gatherings. But, perhaps, Thelma’s most remarkable quality was her generosity. She had a heart of gold, always ready to lend a helping hand and give back to her community. Her acts of kindness, from donating food to clothes to those in need.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to service at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Pastor Michael Jones will officiate. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Thelma’s name to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville.
