WEST PEORIA - Sharon L. McBride, age 84, a lifelong West Peoria resident, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

She was born on December 5, 1939, in Peoria to Ralph and Joyce (Shoff) McBride. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Earp and Susan Greenwalt; and granddaughter, Morgan Ciota.

Sharon was a kind mother to Matthew Ciota, Liz (Rich) Faron, Tom (Karen) Ciota and Nathan (Julie) Ciota; and a loving Granny to Thomas Ciota Jr., Cannon (Florence) Ciota, Sharadyn (Dylan) Futrell, Sean Faron and Joe Faron.

She was a graduate of Manual High School and Bradley University, receiving her Master’s degree in 1987. She retired after 25-plus years from Bradley University College of Engineering.

Sharon was a proud person with a lifetime of community involvement, starting with Cub Scout Pack 11 in the late 1960s. In 1970, she founded the West Peoria 4th of July Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony, the longest running Independence Day Parade in Illinois. She was an organizer for the Annual West Peoria Veterans Memorial ceremony.

Sharon represented the city of West Peoria as a CityLink Transit Board member for over 27 years and was recognized as the APTA Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member in 2020.

She was a columnist for the Community Word Newspaper, a West Peoria Township Trustee through 1985-1996, a member of West Peoria Zoning Board and was involved with the Western Ave Greenway Committee.

Sharon was a faithful parent booster for Calvin Coolidge Grade School, Manual High School and Peoria Senior Summer Band.

Sharon had countless friends and was well-loved. She touched the hearts of many: Bradley Students and faculty, her Cub Scouts, CityLink colleagues, members of APTA and her West Peoria neighbors.

Sharon’s words of wisdom, dry humor, community involvement and continuous support will be missed. She was warm-hearted and caring, always connecting with everyone she met.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Words of comfort can be shared with the McBride family at www.Davison-Fulton.com.
