Charlotte Parr
CHILLICOTHE - Charlotte Parr, age 99, of Chillicothe passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at The ARC in Chillicothe.
Charlotte was born on January 22, 1925, in Kokomo, IN, to William Shelly and Bessie (Touby) Lovejoy. She married William Morris Parr on July 4, 1948, in Howard County, IN. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2013. Also preceded her in death were her parents and her grandson, Benjamin J. Christian.
Surviving are her children, Christine Parr of Lander, Wyoming, Marian Parr of Geneva, Minnesota, Thomas Parr of Chillicothe, IL, and David (Clare) Parr of Peoria, IL; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dan) Viktora, Renee Parr, Jacob Parr and Meg (Steve) Compton. She was loved deeply by her nine great-grandchildren.
Charlotte was raised in Indiana and grew up on a dairy farm. Charlotte loved to play softball and was the star catcher for Wildcats Softball in high school. She then went on to play League Softball during and after college; her nickname was “Skeeter” because she loved steal bases. Her skills as a catcher lead them to win the Amateur Softball State Championship. She attended Butler University in Indiana and studied fashion and graphic arts. Later, she attended the Art Institute of Indianapolis. Her passion for graphic art lead her to become a female entrepreneur, opening her own business in Chillicothe in 1969. Charlotte loved to collect irons and trivets. Bill and Char would drive all over the countryside going to flea markets, antique stores and Iron meets. She was a women who always was noticing the color and texture to art, clothing and nature. She painted several pieces which are loved by her family.
Charlotte was an active member, serving for many years, of the Midwest Sad Iron Collectors Club and of Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce.
Charlotte lived at Heritage Care Center for close to 10 years, and was deeply loved by the staff. Char’s family extends deepest gratitude for all the love and care provided to her during her last chapter.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
