FARMINGTON - Ralph F. Bitner, 87, of Farmington passed away at 4:08 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, at his residence.

He was born on March 4, 1937, in Trivoli, IL, to Charles and Florence (Rindfleisc­h) Bitner. He married Judith K. Long on September 29, 1956. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, six half-brothers, four half-sisters, four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his two daughters, Dee Hagen and Mary Jo (the late Richard) Perardi; five grandchild­ren, Elizabeth (Jeff) Shillinger, Laura (Donny) Gruss, Michael (Sarah) Perardi, Daniel Perardi and Adam (Kierstin Matthews) Perardi; eight great-grandchild­ren; and one sister, Linda Gernert.

Ralph graduated from Farmington High School in 1955. He completed a four-year machinist apprentice­ship through Caterpilla­r. He retired from Caterpilla­r after 42 years. Ralph and Judy enjoyed traveling in their camper with their dogs. He was a lifelong member of the Farmington Moose. He also enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing and Old Milwaukee. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved being with his family and grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Graveside services will follow visitation at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, IL, at 12:30 p.m. the same day. The Rev. Kevin Van Tine will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded with Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue 1100.
