Floral Ribbons Border

Pink blossoms with heart-shaped leaves are repeated in a pattern that makes a lovely border for a pillowcase or table runner. Lacy cutwork and delicate pink ribbon complete this breathtaki­ng design.

DMC® Sullivans® 503 45112 blue green, med. 963 45297 dusty rose, ul. vy. lt. 3716 45364 dusty rose, vy. lt. 3813 45410 blue green, lt. kb B5200 45002 snow white Stitch Count: 67H x 198W Design Size: 47/8" x 141/4" Instructio­ns: Determine the length needed for edge of pillowcase or other item to be trimmed, and then repeat pattern as needed to achieve desired length.

Work Kloster blocks (kb) and corners over four threads using two strands B5200/45002.

Work vertical and horizontal satin stitch over two, three and four threads for crosses using one strand 3716/45364.

Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss.

Cross stitch over four threads in center of crosses using two strands 3716/45364.

Backstitch over two threads using two strands 503/45112.

Using sharp embroidery scissors, cut fabric where red lines appear on chart. Carefully withdraw cut fabric threads.

Finishing Materials & Instructio­ns

• 1/8"-wide pink double-face satin ribbon 150 from Bucilla* • Pillowcase or other item • Coordinati­ng sewing thread • Sewing machine (optional) *See Where to Find It on page 62.

Trim stitched piece along outside edge of Kloster blocks next to stitching, being careful not to cut stitching. At each end of Kloster blocks leave 1/2" seam allowance for finishing.

Referring to photo, run a length of ribbon through cross stitches at center of satin-stitch crosses the length of your stitching as follows: Beginning on the left side of the stitched piece, run ribbon under cross stitch on the left side and bring back up on the right side of cross stitch. Take ribbon back over cross stitch to left side going under again and bring back up on right side of stitch; then continue on to the next cross stitch to the right, repeating process, creating a zigzag effect.

Place ends of ribbon to back side of stitched piece, trimming if needed. Fold seam allowance under along with ribbon ends and sew to back side of stitched piece. Sew finished piece to edge of pillowcase or other item.
