Every Christmas Eve we would go to my great-grandmother’s house for Christmas with family. On the two-hour drive home we would pass the time finding houses decorated with Christmas lights along the route.

When our kids were little, we continued the Christmas lights tradition, searching for neighborhoods that had beautiful displays. Then our city’s botanical garden opened their Christmas Galaxy of Lights. It was so much fun to see the amazement and hear the sounds of glee as we drove through the 1-mile-long display. Our favorite section was the tunnel of lights, where you were totally surrounded by lights as you drove through.

Enjoying Christmas light displays is one of the many magical traditions that my family will continue to enjoy in the past, present and future Christmas seasons.
