Skill Level: Intermediate Materials
• 13" x 13" piece 28- count bright green linen from Permin*
• One skein each DMC® or Anchor sixstrand embroidery floss*
• One package each Mill Hill Seed Beads*
• Size 24 tapestry needle
• Beading needle *See Where to Find It on page 112
Instructions:
Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss. Work 1/2 cross stitch using two strands of floss.
Backstitch over two threads using two strands of floss.
Work straight stitch using two strands of floss.
Attach beads using 1/2 cross stitch and coordinating floss.
Finishing Materials & Instructions
• Black glitter ribbon
• Polyester fiberfill
• Coordinating sewing thread • Black tassel* *Tassel-making instructions appear on page 114.
Press stitched piece from reverse side straightening as much as possible. Trim stitched piece to 1/2" from backstitch border. Trim points allowance straight across.
At inside corners of each “arm” on stitched piece, fold arms toward the wrong side.
Starting at fold, turn under seams on adjacent edges to back of stitched piece. Sew together through backstitch border down first side, to bottom point and tie off on back of stitched piece. Sew a second side in same manner.
Cut ribbon to desired length for hanger. Fold ribbon in half and knot loose ends. Create a hole inside the black bead square on the top of the ornament and pull ribbon through hole from inside leaving knot on inside of ornament.
Beginning at top of third side, sew down to bottom point in the same manner as previous sides. Place tassel in space where points join at bottom and secure with several stitches.
Sew down fourth side in the same manner as other sides, stopping at beginning of bottom point. Fill ornament with polyester fiberfill and then finish sewing side closed.
