Materials

• 10" x 9" piece 28- count café mocha Country French linen from Wichelt Imports Inc.* • One skein each DMC® or Sullivans® USA six-strand embroidery floss* • One package each Mill Hill size

6/0 and size 8/0 Pony Beads* • One package Mill Hill Antique

Seed Beads* • Size 24 tapestry needle • Beading needle *See Where to Find It on page 112. Stitch Count: 45H x 37W Design Size: 31/4" x 22/ 3" Instructio­ns: Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss. Attach beads using one strand of coordinati­ng floss and a 1/2 cross stitch. Note: Bead garlands will be added after all other stitching is complete. Pink and orange dots on chart indicate placement of garlands.

Finishing Materials & Instructio­ns

• One package Mill Hill #G03502 satin willow antique seed beads, plus beads listed in color code: #G03026 wild blueberry and #G18826 opal hyacinth • Coordinati­ng beading thread • 5" x 5" piece purple felt • 4" x 4" piece black burlap- covered

cardboard • Craft glue • Two 16" lengths 1/4"-wide black gros

grain ribbon • Three 12mm large-hole wooden

beads • Four 9mm large-hole black beads

Note: Refer to chart and project photo for placement of bead garlands.

Bead Garlands: Secure thread to back side of linen at upper pink dot. String garland by repeating the following bead sequence three times: five G03026, one G03502, one G18826 and one G03502. After third time finish with five G03026. Attach garland at lower pink dot and secure thread on back side of linen.

Begin second garland at the upper orange dot. String garland by repeating above sequence four times followed by five G03026. Secure bottom of second garland at lower orange dot.

Ornament: Trim stitched piece to 31/2" wide. Fray long side edges by removing four threads on each edge. Center stitched piece over burlap-covered cardboard. Wrap extra linen to back side of burlap-covered cardboard and secure with craft glue. Allow to dry.

Place both lengths of ribbon together and tie in a knot on one end. Thread one 12mm wooden bead onto both ribbons and slide up to knot. At other end of ribbons, thread the following sequence on each ribbon: 9mm bead, 12mm bead, 9mm bead. Tie a knot on each ribbon end to secure beads.

Place ribbons in center back of black burlap-covered cardboard with the single wooden bead at the top and leaving approximat­ely 31/2" of ribbon ends below the bottom of burlap. Use craft glue to attach ribbons to back of burlap-covered cardboard.

Center purple felt piece on back of ornament. Glue felt in place. Lay flat to dry.
