Materials

• 10" x 9" piece 28- count chai tea handdyed Jobelan from Wichelt Imports Inc.* • One skein each DMC® or Sullivans®

USA six-strand embroidery floss* • Size 24 tapestry needle *See Where to Find It on page 112 Stitch Count: 48H x 35W Design Size: 3½" x 2½"

Instructio­ns:

Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss.

Backstitch over two threads, using two strands of floss for wording and one strand of floss for remaining backstitch.

Work French knot using two strands of floss and wrapping floss around needle twice.

Finishing Instructio­ns:

Press finished piece from reverse side, straighten­ing as much as possible; trim edges as desired.

Referring to photo throughout, lay stitched piece wrong side down on right side of coordinati­ng fabric; pin layers to secure. Trim backing fabric to leave border as desired. Using complement­ary floss, work buttonhole stitches around edge of stitched piece to secure.

Lay assembled stitched piece atop complement­ary felt; pin to secure. Form two hanging loops from 1/4"-wide satin ribbon; pin in place between fabric and felt along top edge. Trim felt, leaving desired border. Work buttonhole stitches around edges of fabric to secure layers.

Suspend assembled stitched piece from dowel or twig.
