Finishing Materials & Instructions

• Two 8" x 8" pieces coordinating fabric • 8" x 8" piece green felt • One spool Kreinik #002 gold very fine

braid #4 • 1 yard gold cording • Gold bead cap • Disappearing-ink marking pen • Tracing paper • Fabric glue • Coordinating sewing thread • Polyester fiberfill • Sewing machine (optional) Press stitched pieces from reverse side, straightening as much as possible.

Trace the bauble pattern given on page 55 onto tracing paper and cut out, adding a 1/4" seam allowance. Using paper template and a disappearing-ink pen, trace bauble shape onto stitched pieces centering stitched design within the shape. Cut out.

Use the paper template to cut two bauble shapes from coordinating fabric.

Trace the holly pattern given on page 55 onto tracing paper and cut out. Use paper template to cut three holly leaves from green felt.

Put one stitched design piece and one coordinating fabric piece together with right sides facing; pin to hold, matching points and shapes. Sew together along one side, making sure to keep pieces aligned. Trim excess seam allowance if needed. Press seam open. Repeat with

other stitched piece and coordinating fabric piece, sewing the opposite side together.

Put the halves of the bauble right sides together and pin in place, matching points and curves. Each stitched piece should be facing a coordinating fabric shape. Sew halves together, leaving open a 1" space near top for turning. Trim excess seam allowance if necessary, except for seam allowance at opening.

Press seams open. Baste seam allowance at the opening for turning to the wrong side. Turn right side out, carefully smoothing all curves.

Stuff firmly with fiberfill. Make sure the ornament keeps its shape and is firm. Sew opening closed.

Using fabric glue, attach braid along seams between sections. Begin gluing from the top, go aound and repeat for the other side. Allow glue to dry completely.

Embellish felt holly leaves by working backstitch along the contour using one strand # 002 very fine braid # 4.

Pin the leaves in place at the top of ornament and glue in place. Insert the gold cording through the hole in the bead cap. Tie a knot on it. Glue the knot to the bead cap. Insert the excess ends of the cording inside the bead cap and glue it to the bauble, right in the center where points of holly leaves meet.
