On linen, backstitch border only from chart, using one strand DMC 3865, making sure to center backstitching on linen. This will be the inside of needlebook.

Press stitched pieces from reverse side, straightening as much as possible.

Trim both stitched pieces to 1" from backstitching around all sides. Fingerpress seam allowances to wrong side along backstitching.

Center felt on backstitched inside piece. Fold both pieces in half and mark fold on felt.

Following marked line, backstitch felt to inside piece using two strands DMC 3865 and a sewing needle. This will be where fold for needlebook occurs once assembled.

Lay interfacing pieces, side by side, onto inside unit so that they fit within backstitching and have a small gap between interfacing pieces. Trim interfacing if needed. Set interfacing aside.

Place stitched pieces wrong sides together with seam allowances in between. Use two strands DMC 3865 and ladder stitch to sew two short sides and top edge together along backstitching.

Insert interfacing pieces, side by side, through bottom of needlebook, ensuring there is a small gap between. Trim interfacing if necessary.

Ladder-stitch bottom edge of linen pieces together in same manner as above.

Fold twisted cording in half and place along fold of needlebook, half inside and half outside. At bottom of needlebook, use a 6" length of DMC

522 to wrap around twisted cord three times and knot securely at center. Fold needlebook closed.

Cut a 16" length of DMC 522, fold into quarters and center bundle over twisted-cord knot. Thread a needle with three strands DMC 522 and secure bundle to cording by wrapping several times and knotting securely. Trim ends of bundle even to 1" and loosen strands to create tassel effect.
