Tri-county Rails to Trails to celebrate Trails Day 2022 on Saturday
ELK COUNTY-HOSTED on the fourth Saturday of April, this year, April 23, Celebrate Trails Day (formerly Opening Day for Trails) is an annual spring celebration of America's trails. Started by Railsto-trails Conservancy in 2013, the festival encourages people across the country to get outside and enjoy the nation's exceptional trails and trail systems.
The Ridgway Tricounty Rails to Trails program will be celebrating on Saturday as well, but not in the usual location in Ridgway, but is taking the party on the road to the Brockway terminus of the Clarion-little Toby trail.
Meet and mingle with fellow trail enthusiasts at the Clarion-little Toby Brockway trailhead and share your favorite trail moments.
Tri-county will be manning the Brockway trailhead on Seventh Avenue from 2-4 p.m., and everyone is welcome, not just Rails to Trails members. Stay for hot dogs, baked goods, drinks, and T-shirt raffles. Memberships and renewals will also be available.
The Tri-county Rails to Trails will also be busy the next two weekends, with members putting in a lot of time to support the Ridgway trailhead. For the upcoming Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, Tricounty volunteers will be helping to park cars at the event, with proceeds going to the Trail.
After this celebration, there is a scheduled Spring Work Day for members and volunteers on May 1, beginning at noon at the Ridgway Trailhead. They will be working on ditch and culvert clean out as well as tree cutting where needed.
Please bring shovels, rakes, and gloves if you wish to participate. Meet at the Clarionlittle Toby Trailhead in Ridgway at noon.
The Clarion-little Toby Trail is one of the hidden gems of Ridgway, and with the proposed extension of the trail to Johnsonburg in the coming years, it's a perfect time to join this community organization. Trails make getting outdoors and around by foot, bike, and wheelchair more accessible for everyone. These essential outdoor spaces give residents space to swap car trips for bike trips, reducing emissions and helping the environment; bring powerful economic opportunity to communities big, small, and in between; and deliver health and happiness for so many people. Join the celebrations all summer long and enjoy the Trail.
