James E. Vantine

-

James E. Vantine, 77, of Sleepy Hollow Rd. in Kane, passed away Saturday evening April 16, 2022 at his residence. He was Born on March 5, 1945 in Kane, he was the son of the late Alan and Mae (Ryding) Vantine.

On August 12, 1989, in Kane, he married Patricia Bearfield, who survives.

Mr. Vantine graduated from Kane Area High school and later from Morehead State University with a bachelor's degree in education. He spent over 30 years teaching in both the Ridgway and Kane School Districts, retiring from Kane in 2002.

In the summers when he wasn't educating the future laborers of the area through his wood shop and drafting classes he spent many hours roofing houses and teaching that skill set. Mr. Vantine impressed a good work ethic on all those that worked for him – even if they, “just didn't work out.”

Mr. Vantine was a member of the Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was active in the choir and anything else that was asked of him. He always made sure to have a festive korv dinner at the church around the holidays which was constantly enjoyed by all who attended.

When he wasn't teaching, roofing, or spending time at the church he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. Many memory-filled trips were encountered by the two during their golden years of retirement with their last one being a memorable one to Colorado.

When Jim wasn't with his family, he could be found tinkering on projects both large and small in his workshop, catching a baseball game, or riding his Harley – if the weather allowed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Pamela Vantine of Georgia and Heather (Lee) Smith of Kane; one stepson Pat (Monica) Bearfield of Grand Junction,co and two stepdaughters, Penny (Wally) Barber of Kane and Peggan (David) Damiani of Lancaster, NY. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Tom Vantine, and a stepson, Prescott (Scott) Bearfield.
