Emergycare’s Camp EMS returns after two year hiatus
Erie, PA – Emergycare's Camp EMS began in 2013 to introduce Emergency Medical Services to teenagers. This week-long experience is held on the campus of Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, with Baldwin Hall being the camp's main base. Emergycare's Camp EMS is a unique experience which allows campers to interact with some of the region's top EMS and healthcare experts. They participate in a variety of dynamic and interactive sessions and learning opportunities such as patient assessments, rescue techniques, treatment of real-life medical traumas using the patient simulator and more.
These sessions bring the world of EMS alive to them. In addition to receiving a first-hand look into the world of pre-hospital medicine, campers also earn their American Heart Association CPR certification upon successful completion and graduation from the six-day, five-night Emergycare Camp EMS. The CPR Certification is valid for two years, which is often one of the first steps in a series of classes and certifications needed to enter the pre-hospital profession.
The students will arrive on campus Sunday, June 26th, however they will begin the learning sessions on Monday and go through Friday, July 1st when they will graduate at 6:00 p.m. (See attached schedule).
Due to Covid in 2020 and 2021, camp was not able to be held. This year it is back and better than ever. There will be 38 students attending from various areas. Most of the students are from the communities Emergycare serves in Northwest Pennsylvania. However, there are also students from Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Jim Kifer, Education and Training Manager at Emergycare and Founder of Emergycare's Camp EMS stated, “While we began the camp to get students from the local area interested in EMS and hopefully have them become future employees, we are excited the program has grown and people outside the area are taking an interest. Our Education Department is a vital part of the organization, and we are happy to train individuals both locally and throughout the U.S.”
At the end of camp, students go through a graduation ceremony and celebrate the success of the week. Each year up to four Emergycare Camp EMS participants are awarded the Kyle M. Swain Memorial Scholarship to attend an EMT class. - More The
