Fox Park summer program holds relay theme day

- By Jessica Decker Staff Writer

Every Thursday the Fox Township Summer Park Program has a theme day.

Usually the theme days are held at the little park behind the Fox Township Volunteer Fire department. However, this theme day was held at the main Fox Park because it gave them the space for all of the different activities for a relay race theme.

All of the kids that attended that day, ranging from 4 years old to 12 years old, were split into 3 separate teams. The ages were evenly mixed so that all teams were exactly the same.

The kids then thought up names for their teams and made flags them.

The theme day was similar to elementary school field days with different stations for various activities. There were 6 different stations and 3 separate teams.

Before they could go to the stations, the kids were given a clue and had to figure out where in the park the clue referred to. If they were correct, this was their first station.

The first station was one in which the kids had to complete 3 separate puzzles as a team and they were timed.

The next station was a baby food taste test. The kids had to try the baby food to see if they could guess which kind of food it to represent was from a list.

The next station was the obstacle course that all the kids could go through.

After the teams went through these 3 stations, they had lunch and one of the program helpers took their flags to hide for them to find later.

After lunch, it was time for the kids to do the remaining stations.

One was finding and capturing their flag. The fourth station worked as a team to fill a bucket with sand using only a small spoon.

The final station was the Oreo game. During this game, an Oreo was placed on each kid’s forehead and then without using hands they had to slide the cookie into their mouths.

At each station, the groups would win points based on how they did at that activity, and at the end, the teams would be ranked according to those scores.

Ribbons and prizes were given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
