On July 21, 2022, the Garden Club met at the Baptist Church in Kane. President Janet Bard introduced guests Cara Rugh and Diane Rhodes. The Business meeting was conducted.

Kristy Lorenzo presented an excellent power point program on Smokey Bee Honey Company. She explained that raising bees became a good way for her to revitalize land that had been left to her by her grandfather Smokey Swanson. Kristy tends to 12 hives each containing 50 to 60 thousand bees. Garden Club members were fascinated by Kristy talking about how the queen bee is selected and nurtured by the female worker bees and lives about two years. She said the male drone bees’ sole purpose is to mate with the queen bee. Her hives are free from chemicals and the bees feed only on honey, so the hives are selfsustaining. Kristy answered many questions from the ladies. In doing so she talked about the benefits of honey, issues she encounters in the hives and how the bees take care of intruders themselves. Each member received a small jar of honey.
