Fantastic season ends for the Gators
On Friday night at Clarion University, Port Allegany's season ended with a 46-36 loss to Union (New Castle) in the PIAA Class A semifinals.
The Scotties play Steelton Highspire in the championship game on Thursday at Cumberland Valley High School's Chapman Field in Mechanicsburg where all six state titles will be decided. The District 3 champ Steamrollers (13-1) beat Canton, 2821.
Justin Bienkowski's Gators entered a crazy fourth quarter trailing 28-6. After Port pulled within 14, Union extended the lead to 46-22 with 5:08 left. A seven-yard Blaine Moses score and conversion run by Noah Archer's two-point made it 46-30 with 1:55 remaining and 29 seconds later after recovering an onside kick and completion, Moses went in from the one. The two-point play to pull within a score was unsuccessful. Union recovered the next onside attempt and ran out the clock.
Union, which entered the WPIAL championship as the 10-seed, improved to 12-3.
