Kane Police Department Begins E-ticketing with Informant Software

- By Theresa Auriemmo

Kane Police Chief, Heath Boyer, reported that e-ticketing from the Taurus has begun and unveiled the new program (Informant software) that will replace Visual Alert for the Borough.

At Wednesday's Kane Borough Council Regular Board Meeting, Boyer explained that the upfront cost for the necessary software change will be $6,400, marked down 20% from $8K if ordered in the next 30 days.

The one-year maintenance agreement for the new software will be an additional $1,800.

The pricing was higher than anticipated when compared to the existing maintenance agreement for Visual Alert. There will also be a fee incurred for data migration, he explained.

He requested Council's permission to purchase now before the costs increase any further. A motion was made by Councilwoman Linda Kerek and seconded by Councilman Gary Schul to proceed with the Informant software and a one-year maintenance purchase. The motion was carried out.

Kane Fire Chief Matt Bressler requested Ordinance #A-1059 for Knox Box installation to have a second reading.

Moving on, Kaneborough Manager, Don Payne, reported that the Borough will be taking over the flowerpots and hanging baskets along Fraley Street this year.

He also announced that the Cable Franchise Agreement will be up in August. Council discussed channel offerings in the area. Kane Borough's Solicitor, Tony Alfieri, has a "wish list" that will affect the upcoming negotiations.

Also, the Board agreed to amend portions of Chapter 242 of the Borough Code relating to parking violations and penalties.

The MCWAPEC (Mckean, Warren, Potter, and Cameron Counties) meeting is coming up and there has been a change to the guest speaker. Donna Zariczny with Inscale Architects of Warren, PA. Schimp explained that Zariczny is familiar with the design of the Kane Passive House which is where the event will be held.

The MCWAPEC meeting is scheduled throughout the year for municipalities to get together. Elected officials talk about issues, bring problem-solving ideas, give information regarding available grants, and keep in touch over a meal.

Municipalities take turns with these meetings. The Borough of Kane is hosting February's meeting.

Earlier in January, Mayor Brandy Schimp attended the Kane Area School District Board of Directors Work Session Meeting to discuss hiring a School Resource Officer (SRO). She advised that the Board send a formal letter to Council and ask Council to permit the Civil Service Commission to proceed with hiring an SRO. The letter, when received, will be reviewed by the Borough's Solicitor. With his approval, Council has no objections with proceeding.

"I am thrilled to be moving forward with this much-needed position (SRO) and I'm looking forward to working with the Kane Area School District to make sure we find the best fit," Schimp said.

Steve Wolfe was appointed as an alternate member to the Civil Service Commission. He was unavailable for swearing in at the time of the meeting but will be sworn in prior to the next Civil Service Commission Meeting

Reverend Calvin Cook led Council in prayer.
