Turnovers prove costly in 49-28 loss to St. Marys

- By Keith Reigel Staff Writer

St. Marys - The Kane Lady Wolves looked to be patient to start the game but once the defense of the St. Marys Lady Dutch kicked in Kane had a difficult time getting into any rhythm and St. Marys jumped out to a comfortable 17-7 lead after one period. Kane was able to pick up their defense and they played the second quarter even and the home team was content in taking that lead into the half as they held the ball and never even looked for a shot the last two and a half minutes until they got a shot off just before the buzzer that was not good so they took the nine point lead into halftime.

The third was just about a mirror image of the first as the Lady Dutch moved the ball and were able to spread the Lady Wolves defense and got some easy baskets driving by the defender to the hoop or making a good pass for a layup and increased the lead to sixteen going into the final period. Kane did show patience in trying to move the ball for good shots but made some careless passes and St. Marys booked their ticket into the AML Championship tomorrow against the winner of North top seed Elk County Catholic and South two seed Dubois Central Catholic. The girls championship will be played at 6 p.m. with the boys championship to follow at 8 p.m. both at St. Marys High School.

The girls will get some practices in before they play their next game Tuesday, February 28 at Clarion University against a very good Karns City team. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
