Boys bow out of District Playoffs

- Keith Reigel Staff Writer

Strattanville - The Kane Boys Basketball Team had their season come to a close at the hands of a very good Clarion-limestone Lions team 61-37. The Lions came out roaring as they pressured the Wolves and jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Dane Anderson put Kane on the board with 3:53 left in the quarter. The only other bucket Kane could muster was Ricky Zampogna followed shortly with a 3-pointer but then the home team closed out the quarter with another 8-0 run to take a commanding 22-5 lead after one period. Clarion was a step quicker to the ball and they controlled both the offensive and defensive boards. The game got a little more intense in the second quarter with Kane driving to the hoop and picking up fouls but they still were not able to find the bottom of the net and the home team took a substantial lead into half just one point shy of the mercy rule leading 4314.

Kane came out and hit a couple 3-pointers by Anderson and Sam Lundeen to keep the mercy rule out of play for a while but the pressure created some easy points at the other end and the Clarion Limestone Lions rode that lead to victory. With the clock running continuously the Lions were actually held scoreless the entire fourth quarter but by that time the game was pretty much in check.

Overall, it was a pretty good year when you consider only one starter had any varsity experience, two played junior varsity and two have not played basketball for a year or two. It was one of those years that you would wonder which team was going to show up. Would it be the inexperienced team or the team with athletes that went out and just played basketball.

It made for a very interesting year to watch boys basketball.

Clarion- Limestone will move on to play Karns City and Ridgway will move on to play the winner of #1 seed Otto Eldred and #8 seed Curwensville Wednesday, March 1 at a site to be determined.
