Asbury Woods Celebrates World Water Day
Erie, PA - On March 22, as part of our Year of Water, Asbury Woods will be joining organizations across the globe to celebrate World Water Day
World Water Day is held annually on March 22 as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Water is one of the world's most vital natural resources and our region's strategic location adjacent to Lake Erie makes the topic of clean water and sustainable use of fresh water a matter of local and regional significance. The United Nations led campaign, Be the Change, encourages people to act in their own lives to change the way they use, consume, and manage water. Whether we are drinking it, recreating in and on it, living on its shores, or using it for industry, Lake Erie and its watershed is an inescapable part of the fabric of our community.
In recognition of World Water Day, The Andrew J. Conner Nature Center will be open extended hours to host activities, learning and fun! Activities will include getting your hands wet in our stream table to see the effects of erosion, making a mess with water pollution and how we can prevent it, learning about the trout we are raising with our Trout in the Classroom program, and more! “Our goal is to provide programs, materials, and experiences that engage people in conversations about the importance of water and appreciation for this precious resource. Water is such a key part of life in our region and seemingly so abundant that it is easy to take this incredible freshwater resource for granted. We hope that during World Water Day individuals and the community as a whole will think about actions they can take to protect water resources and Be the Change” says Asbury Woods Executive Director, Jennifer Farrar.
