Kane Community Hospital Foundation begins tuition assistance program

-

UPMC Kane employee and local resident Tiffany Housler is continuing her education to become a Medical Laboratory Technician — a very important and needed position at UPMC Kane.

Medical Lab Techs are critical to the operations of a hospital laboratory, but across the nation, many hospitals are faced with a shortage of technicians who can fill this vital role. Tiffany has worked at UPMC Kane as a Lab Support Technician for two years. In this role, she supports the Medical Lab Techs at night with point of care testing, quality control, performing calibrations, and phlebotomy services.

Dedicated to her work, Tiffany made the decision to further her career and commit to her continued employment with UPMC Kane. Once Tiffany completes her new degree program, she plans to transition into

the role of Medical Lab Technician, where she will perform lab testing, process specimens, follow up on critical and abnormal test results, perform quality control, and continue to assist in the continuum of patient care at UPMC Kane.

In its effort to fulfill its new Mission, the Kane Community Hospital Foundation (KCHF) identified this

opportunity to support a UPMC Kane employee in achieving further education. Tiffany will be the first UPMC Kane employee to receive a $6,000 contribution from the KCH Foundation to be used toward her tuition.

Linda Myers, President of the Board of Directors for the KCH Foundation, said, “This is one of the new ways that our Foundation will be supporting the people of UPMC Kane and our community. We are so pleased to be offering this support to Tiffany and the hospital.”

John Papalia, Executive Director of the KCH Foundation, went on to say, “As an independent 501(c)(3) organization, the vision of the KCH Foundation is to use our development efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Kane Community Hospital Foundation, and to be a trusted supporter of the people of UPMC Kane and their communities.”

He said, “By supporting continued staff education in these areas of critical need, we help to build and retain highquality healthcare in our local area for years to come. Our Board of Directors is committed to this effort, and we are thrilled to be able to use our resources to support Tiffany, the hospital, and the people we serve."
