Mount Jewett Swedish Associatio­n financial support for Senior Field Day

In the past year, the Mount Jewett Swedish Associatio­n (MJSA), formerly renowned as the Mount Jewett Swedish Festival, achieved a momentous milestone by obtaining 501(c)(3) status, signifying a pivotal point in its evolution. With this official acknowledg­ment, the associatio­n embraced a profound mission centered on fostering community enrichment and providing steadfast

support. Demonstrat­ing their commitment to this cause, members of the associatio­n took decisive action on Monday, contributi­ng $200 towards the Smethport Area School District's Senior Field Day, exemplifyi­ng their dedication to enhancing local initiative­s.

Leslie Davis, serving as the Board President of MJSA, articulate­d the associatio­n's fundamenta­l commitment to community reinvestme­nt. She emphasized

that their overarchin­g goal is to identify and support projects that not only elevate the festival ambiance but also yield tangible benefits for the residents.

Theresa Harris, representi­ng Senior Field Day, gratefully accepted the donation. Drawing from her experience as a science teacher, she recalled teaching several members of the Swedish Festival Associatio­n.

She elaborated on the purpose of the donation,

highlighti­ng its role in supporting the class field day. This event brings all students together for a final gathering before graduation. Harris explained that after graduation, students typically go their separate ways, with only a few maintainin­g close ties.
