KANE — Kane Community Methodist Church (KCMC) is hosting a weekend full of events April 26 -28 to spotlight the various works—at home and abroad—that they engage in. Each day, a different speaker and theme will be highlighted.

To start the weekend the KCMC’S Mission Weekend will commence with a Pie & Ice Cream Social on the evening of April 26 from 6 - 8 p.m. This event highlights the food ministries in the Kane Area. All donations from this event will be distributed to the Kane Area Food Pantry and the Driveup Dinners. Deacon Dave Galvin will be the speaker Friday night at 7:30 pm.

At KCMC, drive-up dinners are served each Wednesday. They have provided over 40,000 meals since the inception of the program. It started in 2020 with food that was purchased for the Lenten dinners. “During COVID, those dinners were canceled and we ended

up with a lot of food, so we decided to provide for those who needed it.” said Pam Wright, business manager for the church. The program has been going strong ever since with approximately 300 meals served (either by delivery or pick up) each Wednesday.

KCMC also helps support the local food pantry and community center. The Kane Area Food Pantry serves between 100 and 125 families each month. The food is packed in boxes and is ready for pickup the last Friday of the month. The Kane Area Community Center has food giveaways each month. Deacon Galvin often brings food that is distributed there.

On Saturday morning from 8 - 10 a.m. they will serve a breakfast buffet. There will be displays of the various missions at the church.

Like in Haiti, where KCMC has helped to build a school, put in water filtration barrels and piped in water to the children's center, built chicken coops and helped with food insecurities.

Also on display will be local missions. The Methodist Men's Group helps build handicapped accessible ramps in conjunction with other churches in the area for those in need. The KCMC Women’s Group helps support the Ruth M. Smith Center, a personal care home in Sheffield.

Speaking at the 6 p.m. Saturday service will be Zack Smith and John & Christine Zimmerman. Smith was an intern at KCMC last summer. He is a senior at Grove City College and will be going to Norway as a missionary. Zack will be speaking about his upcoming travels.

The Zimmermans are outreach consultants for churches. They spent about five months in Kane a few years ago. They are the founders of About Face Outreach Consultants. About Face helps churches discover transformational development ministry with the poor, broken and lost.

James Lazarre from Haiti will be the main speaker at the worship services on Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. at KCMC and also at 9:45 a.m. at East Kane Methodist Church. Lazarre will speak about his ministry in Haiti and the education, children's center/orphanage, school support and sustainability projects there.

Following the last service, a pot-luck lunch will be served. Kane Community Methodist Church is located at 112 Greeves St. in Kane.
