BREMERTON - Dorothy (Kirby) Hayes, 97, passed away on February 13th at St. Michael Medical Center from complicati­ons of pneumonia. Family was by her side.

Dorothy Yeager was born June 30, 1926 in Ontario, Oregon.

She was one of three sisters who grew up in Baker, Oregon. She graduated high school and later met James Kirby, whom she married. They settled in Nampa, Idaho and had two children, Ann and Kyler.

The family moved to Bremerton in 1970 when Jim started and was administra­tor for KCARP (Kitsap County Alcoholic Recovery Program). Dorothy was a loving homemaker and wonderful mom, supporting her family’s many activities.

Jim passed away at the age of 62, and several years later, she met Vernon Hayes. They were married 20 years until he also passed away.

Dorothy was an avid golfer who, over the years won many tournament­s, including club champion at Gold Mountain Golf Course. She made many friends in the ladies club there. Dorothy was best known for her “comedic honesty”. She got two holes in one, in the same weekend, at the age of 84.

Dorothy spent the last 6 years of her life at Bay Pointe Assisted Living facility. Many thanks to the caring, loving staff there.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Kyler and sister, Lillian.

Dorothy’s memory will live on with her sister, Ocie Schnell; daughter, Ann Cook (Barry); grandsons, Troy Cook and Robert Kirby; granddaugh­ters, Amy Warden and Nikki Kirby; and two great grandsons.

No services will be held as per her wishes. Dorothy will be inurned with Jim and Kyler Kirby at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
