KNOXVILLE - A light went out in my life on Sunday, September 3, 2023. My husband, First Sergeant, Dewey Charles “CD” McMahan, 82 years old entered the gates of Heaven to receive his reward from his precious maker. Hearing the precious words, job well done my kind and faithful soldier. Dewey retired from the Army with over 22 years of service to his country. As a First Sergeant, he served with the First Calvary and 101 Airborne Master Paratroope­r with over 250 jumps under his belt. He was awarded the Army Achievemen­t Medal, Meritoriou­s Medal, Air Medal 8th OLD, Vietnam service Medal with 4 campaign Stars, Senior Parachutis­t Badge, and Aircraft Mechanic and Crew Chief Badge.

Preceded in death by parents, James and Eugenia Mae McMahan “Clinton”; siblings, Goldie Louise McMahan, Dell Celesta McMahan, Bessie Almalee McMahan Roberts, Bertha Juanita Wagner, Mildred Phyllis McMahan Compton, Troy Coleman McMahan; Spouse Sally Byrum McMahan, and Stepdaught­er Donna Kirby.

Dewey is survived by his loving spouse, Mary Lewis McMahan; four dearly loved children, Gail (Nick) Chesser, Sandra McMahan, Jimmy (Sharon) McMahan, Dewey (Mitzi) McMahan; stepson, John Lewis; and stepson-inlaw, Keith Kirby; grandchild­ren, Dakota, Allys, Hannah, Matthew (Kasey), Landen, Peyton (Ethan), Evers, Pace, Robbie (Kayla), Calie, Tanner, Courtney, Megan, Addie #1, Addie #2, Brittany, Kati (Josh), Jessie, Jackson, Judah, Khloe (Jessie), Holland, Jessica, Jo Anna, Parker, Jarrod, and Joy Beth; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 9:30 AM- 11:00 AM at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM. At 12:15 PM friends and family will go in procession to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery- Lyons View for 1:00 PM service with full military honors provided by Tri-County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hershel “Woody” Williams Fisher House in Huntington, WV. They provide housing for families of veterans who are in care facilities so that they can have somewhere to stay while visiting.
