Top 10 state transfers at midpoint of season

Transfers were the top storyline to open the 2023 TSSAA football season. However, it was not about the number of transfers, but their talent level.

Five games into the season, we look at the Tennessee high school football transfers who have had huge seasons and made significan­t impacts for their programs.

Here are the top 10 transfers this season statewide and how they have impacted their teams.

1. Boo Carter, Bradley Central: The Tennessee football commit is a big reason why Bradley Central is 4-0 and ranked No. 8 in the Tennessee Super 25 high school football rankings. The Brainerd transfer, who was a DII-A Mr. Football semifinali­st at Chattanoog­a Christian last season, has 16 catches for 431 yards with seven TDs. He also has two rushing TDs and returned a punt for a touchdown.

2. Brandon Winton, Alcoa: Winton, who transferre­d from IMG Academy, has 17 catches for 389 yards and two TDs. The South Florida commit, who has 430 all-purpose yards, played at Knoxville Webb his sophomore season. He has helped Alcoa to a 4-0 start.

3. Baylor Hayes, Brentwood: The transfer from Sandalwood High school in Jacksonvil­le, Florida, is 57-of-99 passing for 838 yards and has seven TDs with just three intercepti­ons. Hayes also has three rushing TDs. Brentwood is 5-0 with wins over Brentwood Academy, Hendersonv­ille and Henry County.

4. Cordero Walker, Germantown: Walker transferre­d from Haywood in the offseason. He has more than 1,000 all-purpose yards, with more than 600 passing yards for undefeated Germantown.

He also has 13 total touchdowns.

5. Ashton Jones, Oakland: Jones transferre­d from Donelson Christian Academy in the offseason. He has become a go-to running back for the Patriots after TT Hill transferre­d to Brentwood Academy and Aivery Hayneswort­h suffered an injury that will keep him out for much of the season. Jones has 608 rushing yards and nine TDs. Oakland is 4-1.

6. Brock Montgomery, Riverdale:

Braden Graham. Montgomery has 22 catches for 421 yards and four TDs in just four games. The Connecticu­t commit played at Friendship Christian in 2022. Riverdale is 3-2.

7. Max Holtzclaw, Ensworth: The Brentwood Academy transfer is 3-1 as a starter after having to sit out in Week 1. He has been a key component in the Tigers’ 4-1 start at midseason. He threw for 170 yards in a Week 4 loss to Lipscomb Academy.

9. TT Hill, Brentwood Academy: The former Oakland standout cooled off after a hot start in the Eagles’ loss to McCallie. Hill has 33 catches for 360 yards and rushed for 243 yards. He has a team-high five TDs scored, though Brentwood Academy is 1-4.

10. Kenny Jordan, Stewarts Creek: Jordan, a transfer from Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, has 33 carries for 376 yards and five TDs. He also has 12 catches for 269 yards and four TDs.
