KNOXVILLE - Margaret Gray Grubbs, age 98, Knoxville, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024 at Beverly Park Place. She was born in Knoxville on October 13, 1925.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents Burley and Lula Gray, her sister Dorothy Cato, and her brother James Gray.

She is survived by her children: David Grubbs, Paula Grubbs, and Peggy Bright (Doug) and was blessed with six grandchild­ren and one great-grandchild: Neylan Bright (Brook), Jerrica Bright (Laelynn: great granddaugh­ter), Daylan Bright, Nia Grubbs, Reecey Grubbs, and Margy Grubbs and also her special sister-in-law, Ina Heath, and several special nieces and nephews.

Margaret was a longtime member of the Knoxville First Seventh-Day Adventist Church with a strong Christian faith and was devoted to serving others. The family appreciate­s the visits, cards, letters, and Christmas gifts from friends at the church. She was also a retired 25+ year employee of Sears. Additional­ly, Margaret was an avid domestic traveler via train and an internatio­nal traveler, visiting China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and various European countries, always adding to her magnet collection. She was also a dedicated reader and was passionate about jigsaw puzzles. Margaret (Grammy) enjoyed her weekly visits from her kids and grandkids and loved to bake desserts for them. They were thrilled to return the favor for Grammy years later with her favorite Coke, brownies and chocolate along with the memorable messages on her whiteboard.

Her family appreciate­s the care and love that Margaret received in her later years at the Pointe at Life Springs and Beverly Park Place as she faced the challenges of dementia. Up until the very end, she continued to display her great sense of humor, stubbornne­ss, and feistiness.

The family will receive friends at Weaver’s Funeral Home, 5815 Western Avenue on Sunday, January 21 from 2:00-4:00 PM. Margaret will be laid to rest during a graveside ceremony at Lynch-Bethel Cemetery in Karns, 5913 W. Emory Road on Monday, January 22 at 2:00 PM with John Monday officiatin­g. Friends will gather at 1:45pm.
