Anne-Marie Caroline Renier

-

- Anne-Marie Caroline Renier, age 44, was born Feb. 21, 1979 in Farragut, TN and passed away on Feb 18, 2024 in Washington, DC after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Armand and Jeanne Renier of Brussels, Belgium and maternal grandparents John Hope and Ruth Merritt of Atlanta, Ga. and Uncle Pierre Van Steenkiste of Brussels, Belgium. She attended the Farragut schools, found her lifelong love of playing soccer and had many beloved teammates and friends. She graduated from Georgia State University. She worked in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Phoenix, Knoxville and Washington, DC and had many friends everywhere. Anne-Marie loved her family, her friends and all animals. Until last week, she worked as Development and Engagement Associate with The Humane League, which works for the ethical treatment of farm animals. One of her joys was having a rescue turkey named for her.

She loved to travel and this past year her bucket list took her to the Galapagos Islands (with 3 broken ribs, almost severed toe and an oxygen machine) with her wonderful travel buddies. She also traveled to Denmark and Sweden and all of this fighting the stage 4 cancer that has been the diagnosis since 2018. She was not expected to live this long but she was such a fighter and she lived in a house full of courage and fun with major support of Mark, Siri and their children. She beat the odds of many surgeries, many chemo sessions, radiation, a liver transplant. Many thanks to her brother Paul and his supporting family for donating half his liver and extending the life of his little sister.

Thanks go to the doctors and nurses at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital, Nancy Kemeny, MD and staff, the Hope Lodge NYC, in Washington, DC Sibley hospital, Fred Smith, MD and staff, Inova-Fairfax hospital, the University of Pittsburg MC Transplant team and all who gave her extra years to be able to check things off her bucket list. Kudos to the wonderful, supportive cancer forums on Facebook.

Heartfelt thanks to all the many people who have been praying for her. She knew who you were and appreciated every one of you.

She leaves a family so grateful for your prayers and support: Mother and father, Carolyn and John-Paul Renier, brothers and their families: Mark (Siri), Louise, Nora and Aili; Paul (Sarah) Joshua, Libby and Chase; Uncle Johnny Merritt (Kerren) and cousins Elizabeth, Catherine and John and their families, Aunt Mary Ann Lutz and cousins Brian, Ashley and Sarah and their families; Aunt Marie-Rose Renier-Van Steenkiste, and cousins Serge, Regis (Margot), Virginie and their families. She also leaves other family members related to Renier, Baudewyns, Van Campenhout, Neckebroeck, Merritt, Kuleck in the USA and Belgium.

In her honor, please rescue an animal and/or donate to an animal sanctuary. Anne-Marie, the person who drove from Phoenix to Knoxville with rescue kitties in her car, would love that.

Services honoring and remembering Anne-Marie will be held Sunday, March 17th, 3:00 PM, in the Click Funeral Home Chapel, Farragut. The family will receive friends 1:00 PM-3:00 PM prior to the service.
