- Mary Carolyn Atchley Burnette – age 80 of Powder Springs, TN went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Carolyn was born June 1, 1943, to her parents, Nellie Mae Rose Atchley and Dallas Newell Atchley, Sr. She met the love of her life; Donald Eugene Burnette, while working at Cardin’s Drive-In restaurant in 1961. Carolyn was a devout Christian. Her powerful love for God lead her in her love for her family and friends. Her love for the Holy Trinity was shared with everyone she met. She was a member of Cedar Ford Baptist Church in Luttrell, TN, a Carter High School graduate Class of 1961, a past member O.E.S. Chapter #248 and the Rebekah Lodge #5.

Carolyn and her husband owned many businesses. She enjoyed operating Burnette’s Farm Supply, especially at Christmas. Christmas brought fruits, nuts, and the infamous Christmas Candy. She helped others with understand­ing and filing documents, specifical­ly the dreaded income tax. A later addition to the family store was the Powder Springs Post Office, where she worked as the Postmaster.

She was given and known by many titles, Mother, Mamaw, the Candy Lady and the Tax Lady, and she loved them all. She had a carefree laugh that was very contagious.

Carolyn loved studying God’s word, singing in church and had a love for music. She loved her community and wanted every child to have the opportunit­y to own and learn a musical instrument. She founded, The Children’s Music Ministry, LLC., providing children a musical instrument with lessons free of charge.

Preceded in death by her parents, Dallas Newell Sr., and Nellie Mae Rose Atchley; loving husband, Donald Eugene Burnette; son, Donald Ray Burnette; sister, Barbara Jean Atchley Brooks; brother, Martin Leander Atchley; nephew, Bobby Brooks; sisters-in-law, Sharon Atchley, Evelyn Atchley, Lucretia “Lu” Atchley; brothers-in-law, William Bill Brooks, Jerry Sellers, and Dwight Byrd. She is survived by her children Elizabeth Mae (Roy “Mac”) McLemore, Dallas Eugene (Kristi) Burnette, Carolyn Diane (Jason) Hunter; daughterin-law, Heidi Burnette; daughter at heart Vickie Knight Mabe; grandchild­ren, Jessica Lee Cameron, John Cameron (Amber) Kincaid, Ashley Elizabeth (Casey) Wise, Dallas Joe McLemore, Dylan Colby Burnette; step-grandson, Brice Christian Hunter; great step-granddaugh­ter, Evelyn Rose; siblings, Dallas N. Atchley Jr., Charles E. (Linda) Atchley, Horace E. Atchley, Diana Sellers and Danny W. Atchley; sister-in-law, Marietta Byrd; nieces and nephews, Debbie Byrd, Billy (Debbie) Brooks, Benny (Kelley Rose) Brooks, Terri Brooks, Jamie Silvers, Chuck (Catherine) Atchley, Krista Atchley, Ahey Atchley, Timmy Atchley, Lesa (Gary) Chamberlai­n, Michelle Renee (John) Rickard, Melissa (Donald) Claiborne, Tresia (Pug) Baker, Jerry “JJ” (Tracy) Sellers, Dana Mae (husband Brandon) Johnson, Mirranda (Cody) Goin and Danny Atchley Jr.; several great and great great nieces and nephews; aunt Laurie Shepherd Rose; special family member, Johnny Suffridge; and very special friend, Harley Gibson Williams. The family welcomes friends to a Visitation at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 6pm-8pm. Family and friends will meet at Cedar Ford Baptist, 3201 TN-61, Luttrell, TN 37779, on Saturday April 6, 2024, at 12pm with a procession to follow to Doyle Wayne Needham Cemetery for a Graveside Service.
