- Bobby R. Atkins, 83, of Madisonvil­le, passed away Monday, April 1st, 2024 peacefully under palliative care at Blount Memorial Hospital with his daughter by his side. He had spent his last days surrounded by family, friends and a whole lot of love. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from T.V.A. He loved sports and played football and baseball at Madisonvil­le High School and baseball in the Air Force. Until his vision deteriorat­ed from Macular Degenerati­on, he enjoyed reading, watching sports, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially Rook. He wasn’t a man of many words, but when he talked- you listened. He loved to tell jokes and stories and use his “funny voices” a lot. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Stephen Self; Grandchild­ren, Scarlett (aka Girlfriend) and husband, Zach Sitzler, and Colby (aka Son) Self, all of Madisonvil­le; Special companion his fur baby, Bonnie (aka Little Girl); Brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sandy Atkins, of Maryville; special niece and caregiver, Beth Davidson; special nephews, Jerry Hunt (Lavonda Baker), and Brad (Lisa) Ingram, all of Madisonvil­le; several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife and love of his life, Charlotte Bowers Atkins; parents, Osborn (Obbie) and Imogene Atkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda and Charles Hunt, Linda and Buddy Williams; last wife, Wanda Shirk Atkins; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Graveside service and interment 5:30 P.M. Thursday, Hopewell Springs Cemetery, Rev. Tommy Self officiatin­g. Military honors will be provided by V.F.W. Goldstar Post 5156, American Legion Post 106 and the U.S. Air Force. The family will receive friends 3-5 P.M. Thursday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonvil­le.
