The adage “what goes around comes around” is often applied to fashion cycles. It does not always do the industry justice. This season, fashion may have looked backward in order to spring ahead, but it’s the nuances of silhouette and this season’s softer tailoring that make things feel new, as in our fashion feature “Breezy Point.” The joy of styling menswear makes a gleeful return, and the differences that these little touches and sartorial tricks make are a highlight of “This is Our Youth.”

Films often revisit classic narratives, as is the case with iconic tales such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Our cover star, Nicholas Hoult, will appear in not one but two upcoming vampire flicks. But just as with fashion, the new films feature twists that reinvent and reinvigorate the well-known. Renfield, starring Hoult, and with Nicolas Cage as Dracula, is a modern take, in which the vampire’s familiar finally gets to tell his side of the story. Hoult has also signed on to Robert Eggers’s upcoming Nosferatu remake. Here, the actor checks in with his The Great costar Elle Fanning to chat about working together, picking up calligraphy skills on set, and Hoult’s penchant for blood-suckers.

We also take a look at L’OFFICIEL’S introduction to the Davos scene at this past January’s World Economic Forum in Switzerland, as well as the growing connection between the East and West.

Before Hip hop became a worldwide phenomenon, it was a way of life for a community of people in The Bronx who created their own forms of self-expression. In celebration of Hip hop’s 50th anniversary, two New York City museums are taking a look at the enormous influence this music movement has had since 1973, and how it will undoubtedly impact art, culture, and fashion for generations to come.

At the same time, the return of Indie Sleaze seems almost inevitable, as the late noughties are the next decade in line for a revival. They were championed by Hedi Slimane the first time around, and again at his most recent menswear show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles; chronicled in Lizzie Goodman’s account of the 2000s New York music scene Meet Me in the Bathroom; and digitally resurfaced in the popular Instagram account @indiesleaze. While many may lust for the pre-tiktok nightlife era of point-and-shoot camera photos, we’re hoping that this time around, the penchant for sporting neon sunglasses after dark gets checked at the door.
