For G.T. Bynum
On June 28, Tulsans will go to the polls to elect the person they want to lead the city for the next four years. La Semana believes the best choice is G.T. Bynum.
Bynum brings to the table a fresh and vibrant view not just of what Tulsa is today, but of what it can be in the future.
During his time on the city council Bynum has shown a willingness to take on the difficult work necessary to implement badly needed improvements in the city, as was demonstrated during the recent contentious hearings over which projects should be included in the Vision Tulsa package. Bynum stood up for several components of vital importance to La Semana’s readers, including education, public transportation, and a new bilingual health clinic for East Tulsa.
When voters chose to make Tulsa municipal elections non-partisan, Bynum fully embraced the spirit of the change, diligently working with people from both sides of the political spectrum for the betterment of the city. It is therefore not surprising that Bynum’s campaign team includes Democrats as well as Republicans and is as culturally and ethnically diverse as the city he hopes to serve as mayor. On the other hand, Bynum’s principal opponent – incumbent Mayor Dewey Bartlett – has made it no secret that he prefers the partisan elections of the past.
Bartlett has been an able steward during difficult times, but a new era de- mands a new approach to leadership.
Bynum has promised to focus on making Tulsa a competitive city with a modern economic base, one that can attract new businesses and retain an educated, professional workforce. We believe he has the experience, skills, and creativity needed to lead the city in the years ahead, and we urge our readers to elect G.T. Bynum the next mayor of Tulsa.
