Rosberg keeps cool to dominate in Baku

-

ENGLISH It was a superb European Grand Prix for Nico Rosberg on Sunday, as the German driver cruised to victory in Azerbaijan. The Mercedes driver dominated every single lap in Baku, while teammate Lewis Hamilton struggled with technically difficulties and stumbled home in fifth place.

The largely uneventful race allowed Rosberg to take his 19th career victory, putting him only one victory behind Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Rosberg's dominance was evident as he recorded his first ever grand slam in Formula One, securing pole position, leading every lap, and also obtaining fastest lap and eventual victory.

As for Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, his race pace was extremely strong, which allowed the German to come home in second place.

Vettel was someway off Rosberg but was able to overcome the challenge of teammate Kimi Raikkonen who jumped him at the first round of pit stops to secure consecutive podiums for the first time this season.

Raikkonen was on course for a podium finish but was penalised with a five second time penalty for crossing the pitlane line. Force India's Sergio Perez didn't need the five second penalty as he passed the Finish driver on the final lap to secure third place

Perez’s seventh career podium position was much deserved as the Force India proved too fast for Hamilton and Williams’ Valtteri Bottas.

Starting from tenth Lewis Hamilton looked to cruise through the field but was stuck behind the Force India of Sergio Perez in the earlier stages of the race. Force India’s straight line speed was extremely effective on the Baku street circuit and allowed the Mexican to cement himself as a top driver
