the “cursed” crossroads
TULSA, OK -- According to the records of the Tulsa highway administration the intersection of the roads 71st and Mingo is the worst place to drive in Tulsa, a lo- cation that has the highest yearly rate of traffic accidents.
Ana América, spokesperson of the agency and District 7 councilor, explained that there is already a group working on restructuring plans for the most dangerous intersections in the Tulsa area, emphasizing on the case of 71st and Mingo.
The accidents do not occur because our city was not designed properly, but because of the amount of cars that drive through the area.
“We have a great amount of accidents in this part of the city,” said America. “We have a lot of traffic in this area, from the 10 main intersections in the city with collision issues, seven are inside of or on the border of my district.”
The neighbors of the area decided to meet earlier this week to discuss the problems related to transit in this intersection, and most of the participants agreed that the worst problem is the cars patronizing the neighborhood businesses that do not respect the traffic laws.
According to a report published on the causes of the crashes at this intersection, every year 2.2 million dollars are lost in damages as a result of the collisions.
Soon new changes will be announced to address the traffic situation in District 7.
