The Coalition of Hispanic Organizations hosted the Sixth Hispanic Health Week

-

TULSA, OK -- Last Saturday October 15th from 9 am to 2 pm the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations (COHO) in collaboration with the OSU Family Resilience Center and Tulsa Public Schools, organized the sixth Hispanic free health week on the grounds of Disney Elementary School in East Tulsa.

The Health Fair was a consequence of the need of the Hispanic community for more health care services and preventive health information, considering that most of the members of the community lack health insurance and cannot easily access health care resources.

All the services provided were free of charge and no appointments were required in advance. Medical services and informative lectures were offered by Oklahoma State University, Community Health Connection, Morton Health Services, Saint Francis Xavier´s Clinic and the Optometry Faculty of the Northwest State University.

During the fair participants were able to have free checks of their blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol. Doctors measured BMI, gave flu vaccines, checked the eyesight, teeth and even hearing of those attending. Mental health scans and pregnancy tests were also available.

The event offered lectures on preventive health care and a variety of activities for all the family, such as games, food and raffles.

The fair was a complete success and highlighted the importance of making health care opportunities available to all Tulsans and especially the Hispanic Community. Since 2013, the COHO Hispanic Health Weeks have helped more than 600 people.

COHO is a non-profit organization meant to provide educational tools to the Hispanic community in Tulsa. It has the goal of empowering the local Hispanic community and improving the every day life of all Tulsans by identifying and solving the most basic needs that we share as a community.
