Opinion: For John Waldron

-

ENGLISH Despite the enormity of the media coverage being given to the 2016 presidential contest, it is the other races on the ballot that are likely to have the most impact on the day to day lives of Americans. Among the most important of these for Tulsans – indeed for all Oklahomans – is the race for the open seat in State Senate District 39. La Semana believes that John Waldron is the clear choice to fight for the issues that matter most to Oklahoma families.

John Waldron is a respected and honored educator who has taught social studies at Booker T. Washington High School since 1999. He is among the many teachers from across Oklahoma to file for office this year following session after session of resolute unwillingness by legislators to adequately fund the state’s faltering education system.

As a teacher rather than a career politician, Waldron will bring firsthand knowledge and a vision for positive change that has been sorely lacking at the state capitol. Those who have heard him speak can attest that he is an erudite advocate in matters that for far too long have been mired in the blind partisanship and willful ignorance of the Republican dominated state legislature. Waldron is thoughtful, articulate, and able to convince others, which he does by doing his homework on the issues and attacking problems rather than individuals.

From the economy to the criminal justice system, education directly impacts virtually every aspect of life in the Sooner State. The state’s survival depends on a new approach, and we can think of no one better suited to take on this vital task than John Waldron. La Semana urges our readers to elect John Waldron as the next State Senator for District 39.
