TULSA, Oklahoma. – Un panel formado por profesionales en educación juvenil a nivel local y nacional se reunió el pasado martes para hablar sobre los resultados de la investigación y empezar a planear para la beca de planeación Iniciativa de Aprendizaje Social y Emocional de la Fundación Wallace (SEL, por sus siglas en inglés).

El aprendizaje social y emocional es una forma de enseñar a niños y adultos a entender y manejar de forma efectiva las emociones de manera tal que promueva un aumento en el aprendizaje, la toma de decisiones, las relaciones y finalmente el éxito posterior en la vida.

En mayo del 2016, las Escuelas Públicas de Tulsa y la organización YMCA of Greater Tulsa solicitaron con éxito una beca a la Fundación Wallace. Tulsa fue una de nueve comunidades que recibió una beca para planeación de $400,000 para apoyar la integración del aprendizaje social y emocional tanto en el día escolar como el aprendizaje después de la escuela. En diciembre, el equipo de becas entrevistó a varias organizaciones locales para reunir recursos que apoyen la implementación.

Este panel fue una oportunidad para compartir los resultados de esas pláticas con los prospectos de organizaciones colaboradoras y planear la siguiente fase en el proceso de beca. La junta fue llevada a cabo en Tandy Family YMCA ubicada en 5005 S. Darlington Ave. La plática fue dirigida por Larry Pasti (The Forum for Youth Investment), Kara Bixby (The Weikart Center) y Diedre Farmbry (CASEL).

TULSA, Oklahoma. – Board of education professionals met with national and local representatives met last Tuesday to talk about the Social and Emotional Learning Initiative of the Wallace Foundation (SEL).

The Social and Emotional Learning initiative is a way to teach kids and adults to understand and handle their emotions effectively, so that they can increase their learning development, make better decisions, improve interpersonal relations and have success in their lives.

In May 2016, Tulsa Public Schools and YMCA Greater Tulsa applied for the Wallace Foundation scholarship. Tulsa was one of nine chosen communities that received a scholarship of $400,000 to develop a plan that supports social and emotional learning inside and outside school. In December the scholarship team interviewed different organizations to gather the resources that will eventually support the implementation of the plan.

The meeting of the board was an opportunity to share the results of those interviews with the public and plan the next implementation phase of the project. The meeting took place at the Tandy Family YMCA, 5005 S. Darlington Ave and was moderated by Larry Pasti (The Forum for Youth Investment), Kara Bixby (The Weikart Center) and Diedre Farmbry (CASEL).
