Policía de Tulsa mata a sospechoso armado

El pasado sábado oficiales del Departamento de Policía de Tulsa hirieron fatalmente a un sospechoso armado que intentaba derribar la puerta de una residencia de Tulsa huyendo de ley. Es la quinta vez que la policía le dispara a un sospechoso en lo que va del año, y la tercera en el mes de Junio que termina en muerte.

This past Saturday, officers with the Tulsa Police Department fatally shot an armed suspect as he attempted to kick in the door of a Tulsa home. This was the fifth police shooting of the year, and the third fatal shooting by TPD officers in the past month.
“El 24 de junio alrededor de las 8 de la noche una patrulla dio con un vehículo que parecía robado en la puerta de una residencia en la calle 4 y Garnett”, publicó en una declaración oficial la TPD. “Los oficiales detectaron a tres individuos parados cerca del vehículo. Cuando se acercaron a los individuos, un hombre blanco salió corriendo de la puerta trasera de la residencia con un arma en la mano”.
“Los oficiales comenzaron a seguir al sospechoso y lo ubicaron en el patio de la casa del vecino contiguo a la residencia, aún con el arma en la mano”, continua la declaración de la TPD. “Los oficiales le dijeron varias veces al sospechoso, después identificado como Jimmie Bevenue de 47 años, que soltara su arma. Bevenue sosteniendo la pistola intentó derribar la puerta de la residencia. En ese momento los oficiales dispararon varios tiros a Bevenue para evitar que ingresara en la casa. Bevenue murió en la escena”.
La residencia a la que intentó ingresar el sospechoso estaba ocupada por una mujer mayor que no resultó herida.
La Semana investigó los registros del Departamento de Correccionales de Tulsa y descubrió que Bevenue había estado convicto entre 1989 y el 2007 por cargos en Tulsa, Caddo y Leflore, por ofensas que incluían robo, falsificación de documentos y venta de propiedad robada.
La policía estableció un perímetro en el área circundante a la calle 4ta y Garnett por varias horas, después del tiroteo. Los otros tres individuos que estaban con el sospechoso fueron llevados a la comisaria bajo custodia para realizar un interrogatorio.
“La investigación determinó que el vehículo era robado y el arma estaba dentro del auto cuando lo robaron”, informó la TPD. “No se anticipan otros arrestos en el caso”.
Los tres oficiales vinculados en el tiroteo se encuentran suspendidos con derecho a pago administrativo.

“On June 24th around 8 pm Officers observed a possible stolen vehicle, previously…in the driveway of a residence in the area of 4th and Garnett Rd.,” the TPD said in an official statement. “Officers observed three individuals standing around the vehicle. As officers approached the individuals, an unknown white male ran from the backdoor of the residence with a handgun.”
“Officers pursued the suspect and located him in the backyard of the conjoining neighbor’s residence still holding the gun,” the TPD statement continued. “Officers made commands for the suspect, later identified as Jimmie Bevenue W/M [white male], 47 years old, to drop his weapon. Bevenue, still holding the weapon, kicked open the backdoor of the neighbor’s residence. At that time, three Tulsa Police Officers shot several rounds at Bevenue to keep him from entering the residence. Bevenue was pronounced at the scene.”
The elderly woman inside the home was not injured.
A search of Oklahoma Department of Corrections records by La Semana show a string of convictions for Bevenue from 1989 through 2007 in Tulsa, Caddo, and Leflore counties. He served time for offenses including burglary, forgery, and receipt of stolen property.
The area around 4th and Garnett was cordoned off by police for several hours following the shooting. The three other individuals in the car with Bevenue were taken to TPD headquarters and questioned by detectives.
“It was determined through the investigation that the vehicle was stolen and the gun was inside the vehicle when it was taken,” the TPD said. “No other arrests are anticipated in regards to this incident.”
The three officers involved in the shooting were all routinely placed on paid administrative leave.
Just half way through the year, Tulsa police are just two officer involved shootings shy of the total of seven shootings during all of 2016. Homicides are also on track to surpass last year’s most deadly record.
