Linkin Park Responds To Chester Bennington’s Death

NUEVA YORK.- Los integrantes de Linkin Park dicen que tienen el corazón roto tras la muerte de su vocalista Chester Bennington, quien falleció ahorcado la semana pasada.

“Ondas sísmicas de dolor y negación continúan sacudiendo a nuestra familia mientras lidiamos con lo que ha ocurrido”, dijo la banda de rock el lunes 24.

Bennington, de 41 años, se colgó de la puerta de una habitación de su casa cerca de Los Ángeles. La banda comenzó su declaración con un “Querido Chester”.

“Tocaste muchas vidas, quizás aún más de las que te percataste. En los últimos pocos años, hemos visto una efusión de amor y apoyo, tanto público como privado, de alrededor del mundo. Talinda y la familia lo aprecian, y quieren que el mundo sepa que fuiste el mejor esposo, hijo, y padre; la familia nunca estará completa sin ti”, dice la misiva.

Bennington era uno de los dos vocalistas principales de Linkin Park, una de las bandas más exitosas de la década del 2000. La agrupación ganó incontables premios, incluyendo varios Grammy, con éxitos como “In the End”, ”What I've Done” y “Numb”.

También incluye a Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, Joe Hahnand y Rob Bourdo, quienes dijeron que “la ausencia (de Bennington) deja un vacío que no podrá llenarse nunca — una voz estrepitosa, graciosa, ambiciosa, creativa, amable y generosa en la sala ha desaparecido”.

Linkin Park tenía previsto salir de gira esta semana, pero canceló sus planes tras el deceso de Bennington. La banda debutó en el 2000 con el álbum “Hybrid Theory” y en mayo lanzó “One More Light”, su último disco.

Billboard dijo que “One More Light” reingresó a su más reciente lista del Top 200 en la casilla No. 17, mientras que “Hybrid Theory” se registró en la No. 27. En Amazon, “One More Light” encabezó el lunes la lista de los discos más vendidos y “Hybrid Theory” se ubicó en el quinto lugar.

Más de 11 millones de copias de “Hybrid Theory” se han vendido desde su lanzamiento. El segundo álbum de la banda, “Meteora” de 2003, estaba de 41 en la lista de Billboard y “Minutes to Midnight”, de 2007, de 115.

Linkin Park took to Facebook to post their message. Dear Chester, Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.

You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized. In the past few days, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world. Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you.

Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing. We’re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place. You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human. You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.

Within minutes, the post was shared more that 30,000 times and garnered more than 250,000 reactions from Linkin Park’s 62 million followers.

Benning is survived by his six children and his wife, Talinda. She has not yet responded to his death.

The singer was discovered by his housekeeper just before 9 a.m. He was supposed to go on a photoshoot for the upcoming tour with his band, which was ultimately canceled in the wake of Bennington's untimely death.

Linkin Park bandmate, Mike Shinoda, confirmed Bennington’s death to Twitter Thursday. “Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true,” he said. “An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”

The rock band was best known for hits like “Crawling” and “In The End.” They sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. They won two Grammy Awards: one for Best Hard Rock Performance and another for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay Z.
