El tranquilo vecindario de KendallWhittier se está convirtiendo en el punto más hot de la ciudad, y el lugar donde los artistas locales florecen.
Gracias al Circle Cinema, Ziegler Picture Frames y Art Supplies, las nuevas galerías y los atelieres están cobrando vida en el vecindario, ocupando inclusive el espacio que por décadas copó Swinney’s Hardware.
El barrio tiene un verdadero sentido de la comunidad en parte gracias a los hispanos y sus comercios como Calaveras, El Zócalo buffet, la panadería Pancho Anaya y la galería de arte hispano El Zócalo Latin Art Gallery. Los estudios, galerías y locales de Kendall Whittier se unieron para formar AKWA (pronunciado “acqua” – la asociación de Artes de Kendall Whittier Arts), y el 14 de diciembre esponsorearon la primer caminata de las artes de invierno.

There is a true sense of community in this neighborhood that is home to a growing number of Hispanics and boasts at least three well-known Hispanic owned businesses – Calaveras, Pancho Anaya Bakery, and El Zócalo Latin Art Gallery. Kendall-Whittier shops, studios, and galleries have joined together to form AKWA (pronounced “aqua” – the Association of Kendall Whittier Arts), which on Dec. 14 sponsored the district’s first Winter Art Walk.
And it’s also a great place to do your last minute holiday shopping.
TPC Studios – in the old Swinney’s location at 32 South Lewis Avenue – has a “pop-upshop” with many wonderful, unique and reasonably priced items running through December 21st. Ziegler also has many great gifts, including a number of locally made items. While browsing, it’s a great opportunity to pick up supplies for the undiscovered artistic genius on your shopping list.
