11-month-old baby loses leg from child abuse

- BY KARIME GIL | OKLAHOMA CITY

Ababy just 11 months old lost his right leg after it was amputated due to severe burns and bruises.

According to the authorities, three women have already been arrested in this case, in which Cordette and Breanna Cole, who claimed to be the child's mother and godmother, went to the OU Children's hospital in Oklahoma City, asking for attention for the child, who according to them, had trouble breathing.

When doctors reviewed the child, they discovered that he had third-degree burns from the navel area to his feet, and appeared to have sustained strong blows to the head and neck that were causing the child’s brain to bleed.

The report of the doctors indicated that the boy also had one of his teeth loose, this as a result of the blows, the same that had been given to the baby several days ago. Hospital employees immediately contacted the authorities.

The doctors finally determined that the right leg of the child was so damaged that they had to amputate it from the hip.

When police went to the hospital and met with the two women, they said they were taking care of the baby while his mother was taking care of her other son who was very sick and had foot and mouth disease. They said that it was approximately December 10 that the baby had pulled down a tablecloth and spilled a pan of boiling water accidentally, but they did not think it was so bad that they decided to take care of him at home.

Although they saw that the child's skin had been detached from his body, it was not until two weeks later when the baby had difficulty breathing that they decided to go to a hospital.

But every time the women had to make their statement they changed the story, so it was determined that they were lying, and in addition the baby's injuries did not coincide according to the doctors with the women’s stories. The doctors also stated that if the child had received timely medical attention it would not have been necessary to amputate his leg.

Now the women have been arrested and are facing charges of child abuse. Bail has been set at one million dollars.
