Aspiring teachers still have time to apply for Tulsa Teacher Corps
TULSA, Okla. – As the search for new teachers continues, Tulsa Public Schools has announced that it is extending the deadline for applications to the first cohort of the Tulsa Teacher Corps. The new deadline for this district-led teacher development program is Monday, May 14, 2018. Applications can be submitted online atwww.tulsaschools.org/tul- sateachercorps.
Tulsa Teacher Corps is a district-run teacher development program that launched in February as an innovative pathway to the classroom for college graduates from all walks of life. The tuition-free program prepares candidates with the skills they need to successfully lead a classroom. Corp members will receive a $1,500 stipend. The stipend recognizes the hard work of participating in an intensive teacher training program. The funds can be used to defray summer living expenses or relocation expenses, making the Tulsa Teacher Corps program accessible to more people.
“The summer training program will be a substantial workload for members as they immediately begin working with Tulsa children and teachers in summer school in June, so we hope that this stipend will help support the aspiring educators in the program,” said Chief Talent and Learning Officer Devin Fletcher.
Applicant Sheridan Eubanks said, “I learned about Tulsa Teacher Corps during a career fair. From that moment on I knew that this was the path I was supposed to be on! I was already taking steps to become a teacher, but with Tulsa Teacher Corps, I will have many people behind me pushing for my success. I am excited for the summer part of the program and can’t wait to be in my own classroom in the fall!”
Qualified applicants for the Tulsa Teacher Corps must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and be able to pass a criminal background check.
