Tulsa Sobering Center opens

-

This Tuesday a center for the treatment of addictions was officially opened.

With the presence of Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, police officers, and members of the 12 & 12 addiction center, the traditional ribbon cutting was performed at the Tulsa Sobering Center facilities, which is located at 6333 E Skelly Dr.

This center represents an option for those who are arrested for intoxication, instead of going to jail, although it will not be applicable in all cases and does not imply that whoever commits a violation of the law while in a state of intoxication will not have to pay for their crimes.

The center will be operated by the staff of the 12 & 12 addiction center, which will offer patients tools to help them recover and overcome addictions.

The people who will benefit from this center will be those who have been arrested by the police for intoxication and other related crimes. Depending on the case, the arresting officer will be able to determine if the person deserves to go to the center and spend the next 10 hours until the effects of intoxication they are going down, this without going through the city or county jail and possibly not leaving criminal records in their history.

While the person is hospitalized he or she can obtain information about addiction, as well as advice and recovery services.

The construction of this center was possible thanks to the Hardesty family foundation, an institution that absorbed the total cost of the project, $250,000, after it was approved by the mayor and city councilors. (La Semana)
